Cyclical Wisdom

Cyclical Living

Are you listening to your most intimate ally? Your own medicine?

Welcome home to cyclical living.

Welcome home to your cyclical being.

Welcome home to your menstrual cycle.

As women we carry an incredible gift inside of us that can support us in getting to intimately know ourselves, to truly come home to ourselves: Our menstrual cycle.

What is menstrual cycle awareness?

By tracking our emotions, our energy and our capacity to hold ourselves and others, we become aware that they change throughout the month: We are cyclical beings. And we can learn to use this to our advantage.

By building an ever-deepening relationship with our menstrual cycle (or the moon cycle, if we are not bleeding) we learn to take better care of ourselves by making small, but impactful adjustments to our life, to give ourselves (and others) grace, gratitude and self-compassion. In time, we are able to reclaim ourselves. I truly believe that our menstrual cycles can be the portal back to ourselves, back to a deeper understanding of ourselves….

  • What if, instead of ignoring, cursing or suppressing our cycles, we would turn towards them with curiosity?

  • What would your cycle want to tell you about yourself?

Think of menstrual cycle awareness as the ultimate mindfulness tool for women.

For me, things massively shifted when I started to use my menstrual cycle as my pilot light, my True North. Apart from being able to navigate fertile and non-fertile days, it became the simplest, yet most profound practice to anchor me into myself and into nature. Menstrual Cycle Awareness helps me to make plans that work with my monthly ebbs and flows of patience, energy and capacity, rather than against them.

And now, towards the end of my cycling years, the practice of tuning into my body, tracking my inner emotional landscape and my understanding of the importance of rest are the best of companions for the journey into menopause.

Let me guide you in how to work with your menstrual cycle as your own medicine to reclaim your natural powers.

  • Cyclical life offers us a container or holding for our lives. We are held and nourished by the movement of cyclical patterns - the cycle of the seasons, the moon, our bodies changing patterns through the circadian and ultradian rhythms and of course our menstrual cycle.

  • I truly believe that being connected to your menstrual cycle can be part of saving the world… Cycle awareness restores a sense of belonging to life, and belonging to earth – and with that comes deep reverence and care for all kin.

FAQs

  • The answer is: I don’t know. There are plenty of fantastic medical/holistic practitioners who do a great job at looking at your physicality and offer support and solutions. I am a great believer in medical intervention when it is needed and holistic approaches whenever possible. The work I offer is in the realm of self-discovery. I am here to show you ways to connect with your cycle, however difficult your relationship may be, to become curious and to guide you in meeting yourself with the care, love and attention we all innately deserve.

  • YES, absolutely. Now is always the best time to start. The beginning of what most people call “perimenopause” is very often a time when women come across cycle awareness. We sense that something is changing, we are trying to make sense of it and are looking for support. Getting to know our cycles is always, always, always a good idea. We can begin to see patterns, we can notice the things and actions that support us and those that throw us off course. We will learn just how important and life-giving rest is regain trust in our bodies- something that can easily be shaken when we enter the murky waters of perimenopause.

  • There can be many reasons why women do not bleed. It doesn’t mean they are not cyclical. There are different ways of tracking yourself without the marker of a menses/moon time. Many women for example use the lunar cycle as their guide. If you are unsure whether cycle awareness is right for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me (email link)

  • The proof is in the pudding, I would say 

We have come a long way from the days when people would talk about “the curse” in hushed voices and only to their closest friends. When menstrual “blood” was blue in ads and mothers would toss some menstrual pads at their daughters expecting them to "get on with it" and to not make a fuss, because they didn't either… But have we really?

Are you openly talking at your work place or at the school gates about your cycle? Do you know what day of your cycle you are on, and what that means in terms of your energy, social battery, patience, ability to discern and make decisions?

Medical doctors now consider menstruation as our “fifth vital sign” – an invaluable tool to give us more insights into our physical and mental wellbeing. Do you feel confident in truly knowing your own menstrual cycle?

I truly believe that every woman benefits from growing her relationship with her cyclical nature. Getting to know the complexity of ourselves helps us to navigate the complexity around us. Our capacity to hold ourselves grows and we strengthen our muscles to hold opposites and contradictions within us.

So, I would say whilst the work I offer is certainly not mainstream (yet), it is the work that is needed now more than ever. For ourselves, for our ancestors, the future generations, the earth. (That may or may not sound woo woo to you. Sorry, not sorry ;-)

I use the terms woman/women here when I describe the people I work with. Of course, not all women have a menstrual cycle and not all who have a menstrual cycle define as women. Please have a read here (link)  about more details on this.
